Words-and-Pictures: Soujiji

Note: This selection of Words-and-Pictures was made on September 7, 2001, as I walked on the Old Tokaido.

This magnificent temple is situated between Kawasaki and Kanagawa (modern Yokohama) in Kanagawa Prefecture, which are Stations #2 and 3 respectively (from Tokyo) on the Old Tokaido Highway. You can read more about my visit to Soujiji in my Logbook.

Soujiji's front gate is bigger than the hondo at Honsenji!

The gymnasium-sized office where my book was signed, and where the students kindly made an amulet for my safety.

The Hondo (Main Hall), where I said my prayers.

The Butsuden, or Buddha Hall, where the veneration of the Buddha is practiced.
